Over many years, FEAP has provided detailed advice to the EC and the European Parliament on the complex nature of the professional aquaculture sector in Europe, notably through its participation in the Advisory Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture.

In 2011, the European Commission published its proposals for the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy - the prime European policy that affects the development of European aquaculture. An agreement on a new, reformed fisheries policy for the EU was reached between the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament on 18/06/2013. The related legal instruments for implementation of this policy are the Common Organisation of the Markets (COM) for fisheries and aquaculture products and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) - see EU legislation and funding

In Consumer & market info, some very important issues and concerns of the FEAP are discussed, including the approach on the use of material resources (such as fishmeal and fish oil), correct labelling for consumer information and the now famous 'level playing field'

Environment issues include a wide range of topics that affect European aquaculture - including the control of predators (e.g. cormorants), the effects of the guidelines of Natura 2000 and the Water Framework Directive (WFD); FEAP addresses and supports different issues that concern aquaculture's sustainability and has achievved a lot of work with IUCN (the International Union for the Conservation of Nature), specifically on developing Guidelines for sustainable development.

Finally, within  the Health section, the effects of the legislation on Aquatic Animal Health and animal welfare issues are discussed.
