The main fish species produced in Europe are Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, seabream, seabass and carp, which, when combined, accounted for 94% of European fish aquaculture production in 2014.

Individually, Norway is the producer of the largest volume, principally salmon, and countries like Spain, Italy, France and Turkey have the highest diversity in terms of species produced, farming both freshwater species and marine species in significant quantities.

The other, minor species produced are turbot, sole, halibut, cod, sturgeon, meagre, catfish, eel, (pike)-perch and some other species (see also Production data)
