The development of a code of conduct was part of the 'Consensus' project - This Consensus initiative ran from 2005 to 2009 and was financially supported by the European Commission, under the Sixth Framework Programme Key Action Food Quality & Safety.
Its core objective was to bring together stakeholders to define the path towards sustainable aquaculture development in Europe.
The original version of the FEAP Code of conduct was prepared in 2000. The primary goal of this Code of Conduct is to promote the responsible development and management of a viable European aquaculture sector in order to assure a high standard of quality food production while especting environmental considerations and consumers’ demands.
Following changes and developments in European aquaculture since that time, the FEAP has reviewed and developed the Code of Conduct to reflect the advancements made in the sector. The Code of Conduct 2008 version is currently being reviewed for further updates.
The original CONSENSUS web site (at www.euraquaculture.org) is no longer being hosted, but the main outputs of CONSENSUS are provided via the EAS website
