Is it time for a Common Aquaculture Policy?
Brussels, 16 July 2026 – During the Inter-Advisory Councils meeting in Brussels with Commissioner Costas Kadis, the Aquaculture Advisory Council (AAC) highlighted the need for a renewed approach to aquaculture governance in Europe.
While discussing the evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy and the future Ocean Act, the AAC stressed that long-standing challenges—including complex licensing, limited access to space and administrative barriers—continue to hinder the sector’s development.
The Council reiterated its call for a dedicated Common Aquaculture Policy to support sustainable growth, strengthen EU food sovereignty and create a level playing field across Member States.
