The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) released in 2021 its GFCM 2030 Strategy for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Target 3 of the strategy is dedicated to Aquaculture : a sustainable and resilient sector growing to its full potential, while

Target 5 deals with Capacity development: Technical cooperation, Knowledge sharing and efficient partnerships in a subregional perspective

.   

To achieve those targets, Aquaculture Guidelines have been published.

FEAP actively supports the GFCM 2030 Strategy and wishes to disseminate and promote the application of those guidelines widely.

1. Guidelines for streamlining aquaculture licensing and leasing processes
2. Guidelines on assessing and minimizing the possible impacts from the use of non-indigenous species in aquaculture
3. Guidelines on aquaculture restocking and stock enhancement
4. Guidelines in support of social acceptability for sustainable aquaculture development
