FEAP Welcomes Commissioner Costas Kadis’s Commitment to European Aquaculture Growth
Brussels, 6 November 2024 – The Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP) congratulates Costas Kadis on his confirmation as the new EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, and welcomes his constructive stance on aquaculture, as demonstrated in his European Parliament hearing.
Commissioner Kadis emphasized his dedication to strengthening the aquaculture sector, which he acknowledged as vital for food security, socio-economic stability, and sustainability across Europe. During his hearing, Kadis addressed several key topics that are critical to the aquaculture industry, including the stagnation of production, the need for fair competition with imports, and the importance of consumer education. Recognizing that competition for maritime space is growing, Kadis expressed support for effective spatial planning.
To boost the visibility and public support for aquaculture, Kadis also highlighted the European Commission’s forthcoming communication campaign, which aims to increase consumer awareness of the benefits and high standards of EU aquaculture.
FEAP looks forward to collaborating closely with the Commissioner to ensure this positive momentum translates into tangible results for aquaculture producers across Europe.
